The Lionel D. Pickens Foundation was born out of both love and loss. Created in honor of Lionel D. Pickens—an inspiring artist, devoted father, and beloved son—whose life was senselessly taken on May 17, 2015, in Queens, New York. Our foundation stands as a living tribute to his spirit, his dreams, and the community he cherished.

Lionel believed in rising above circumstance. He believed in rooting for the underdog, the power of creativity, hard work, and the strength that comes from uplifting others. Though his life was cut short, his legacy lives on through our mission:” to empower underprivileged youth and reignite the spirit of entrepreneurship in Far Rockaway and across the greater New York area.”

We are dedicated to building bridges of opportunity where there were once barriers. Through hands-on mentorship, life-changing scholarships, and small business grants, we provide the resources and support needed to help individuals rise, rebuild, and realize their full potential. Our community programs—including annual coat drives, turkey giveaways, and toy drives—are acts of love rooted in service, ensuring that no family is left behind during times of need.

The Lionel D. Pickens Foundation is more than an organization; it’s a movement grounded in resilience, remembrance, and hope. We exist to carry forward Lionel’s dream of a stronger, more united community—one where young people are seen, heard, and given the tools to lead with purpose.
